Hesse

It was interesting because when the big day came for Joseph Knecht's investiture Hesse took pains to accurately describe a gathering of the worthy that might have fooled the last quarter of the 20th but would have fooled no one in the last quarter of the 17th 18th or 19th Century.  Knecht's investiture used a breviary that required a strict order of events which included ritual, meditations, hallowed moments of silence, oath taking. In every respect it was as though the next Pope was passing through the eye of the needle and God or something like it was sitting with Father Jacobus, watching in a respectful manner because he rather approved of the new man. Pomp and ceremony rampant in the history of the great hall, Designori may have known exactly why he wanted to be seen at the gathering of splendor. The great majority of the others were all very pleased with themselves just to be there, their invitation waiting to be framed.

"Does this have something to do with myths."

"It does a bit."

"Oh. That's a shame. We all prefer when you talk about Pullets and Jizzbags."

"All of you!"

"Just a very tiny unimportant bit of your brain likes this myth nonsense. Some of us want to go ahead and cut off blood to it. But the Spleen's not sure that would be a good idea."
